April 8, 2011 | Water Woes

Watch the full episode. See more Texas Week.

San Antonio is officially under stage one water restrictions and it’s unusually early for that to happen.  2010 saw San Antonio receive above normal rainfall and an aquifer that was in good shape.  Now, a few months into 2011, we’re looking at a drought.  San Antonio has had a long range water plan in effect for dealing with these water shortfalls, but the situation hasn’t seemed to change.  What must we do to ensure a future, consistent water supply?
Panelist include Greg Flores, Vice President of Public Affairs, San Antonio Water System (SAWS) and Roland Ruiz/Assistant General Manager, Edwards Aquifer Authority.

Legislative Update with Evan Smith, Editor-in-Chief, the Texas Tribune
Legislators are battling with a budget that may close down some schools and lay off teachers.  In addition, they are trying to deal with a political headache that occurs once every ten years; redrawing Texas Districts due to the increase in population.  Evan will address these issues and more in an expanded Legislative report.
