This has been an amazing week in Texas politics.

A minority of the U.S. House of Representatives, urged on by a Texas senator, shut down the federal government. Democrats are actually excited over a candidate for governor. A conservative San Antonio city councilwoman has declared she will take on an incumbent state senator who has Tea Party backing. And District Attorney Susan Reed, seen as untouchable until recently, may face a stiff primary challenge.
